Medersa Ben Youssef is a former Koranic school from the 16th century, founded by Sultan Abu al-Hasan during the Marinid dynasty, between 1331 and 1348. Medersa Ben Youssef was one of the most important and lavish theological universities in North Africa and the largest in Morocco, known for its openness to science, literature and the arts.The university stopped its activity in 1960, but after its renovation, it was opened to the general public in 1982.

The college has a single entrance that leads through a long dark corridor to the center of the building. This is the courtyard with the prayer room and the mihrab.This beautiful courtyard is decorated with fountains, basins. The chapel is divided into three naves separated by magnificent marble columns. The nave is richly decorated with numerous floral and geometric motifs.  

A jewel of Saadian architecture that is located in the north of the Medina of Marrakech, it is an exceptional architectural and craft creation, especially with its intricate decorations. It has 130 rooms that have accommodated up to 900 students.
